Keep light on after testing

A new option has been added to the DVOC-005x Hardware Interface that prevents the system from turning off the White Bottom Light after testing (in Arena Setup or Advanced Trial Control) or after stopping acquisition. This means that once the light has been turned on, for example by opening the Arena Hardware Mapping or Trial Control dialog, it will remain on before, during, and after acquisition. Any hardware protocols that adjust lighting during acquisition (e.g., dark/light transitions in startle response experiments) will continue to work as designed. Note that if a protocol explicitly turns the light off, it will stay off.

Why?

In the previous version, the White Bottom Light was automatically turned off when closing a test dialog and when acquisition stopped. This meant subjects could be exposed to a sudden light onset at the moment acquisition began, introducing an unintended stimulus that could confound experimental results. This is especially problematic for protocols such as tapping/startle response experiments, where subjects need to be acclimated to stable light conditions before the actual stimulus is delivered.

How to use it?

After installing the updated Hardware Interface (DVOC-005x v1.0.14, included with EthoVision XT 19), go to the Default State settings dialog and uncheck "Turn light off after testing or stop acquisition". Make sure to also set the desired light intensity percentage in the Default State settings. The light intensity may change during acquisition depending on what is configured in Trial Control or Advanced Trial Control. The system will use the last applied setting as reference, or the Default State intensity if no other setting has been applied.
