System Requirements

EthoVision XT 17.5 runs on Windows 10 Professional and 11 Pro. It is not designed for use with Windows Touch features.

If you have EthoVision XT 17.0, this version replaces your current installation but does not delete your experiments. If you're upgrading from EthoVision XT 16 or older, this is not a free upgrade.

If you use a hardware license key (dongle), you’ll need to enter an upgrade code. If you have an active NoldusCare contract, the registered user has received an upgrade key. Otherwise, contact your sales representative to purchase an upgrade.

For software-based licenses, the license will automatically update if you have an active NoldusCare contract. If not, contact your sales representative to purchase an upgrade.

Opening EthoVision for the First Time

When you launch EthoVision XT for the first time, it will search for a valid license.

If you have a hardware license key (dongle):

  • Use the purple USB dongle labeled "EthoVision" with the license number
  • If the dongle is for XT 17.0 or higher, it will be recognized automatically
  • If the dongle is for an earlier version, you’ll be prompted for an upgrade key (enter once; it will be remembered)

If you have a software-based activation code:

  • Select Activate software license key
  • Choose either:
    • Floating – Use on multiple computers (one at a time), requires internet access
    • Fixed – Use offline, activated via one-time internet access or QR code

If you’re acquiring data on just one computer, the Fixed license is typically best.

You can install EthoVision on additional computers without using the activation code. Start in unlicensed analysis mode to analyze existing data without tracking capabilities.
