Solution: Enable File Type and Extension Visibility in Windows

If your project folder looks similar to the example below, Windows File Explorer may be hiding file type and extension information, which can cause confusion when working with Observer XT project files:

How to Display File Types and Extensions

To reveal full file information, follow these steps:

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Go to the View tab on the ribbon menu.
  3. Check the boxes for Details (to display file type) and File name extensions (to display extensions like .vop).

Enabling file extensions in Windows

Important Note About .vop Files

The .vop file is used to open the project in Observer XT, but it is not the complete project.

Do not copy only the .vop file or create a duplicate within the same folder. To make a full copy of a project:

  • Copy the entire project folder, which includes the .vop file and all subfolders (such as Event Data and Multimedia Files).
  • Alternatively, use File > Save Project As inside Observer XT to create a duplicate safely.
