Correcting the Basler Drivers

In order to maximize the performance of Basler cameras, the Basler software installs a Basler driver for the network card to replace the Intel driver normally used. But in some cases Windows will switch back and this can cause subpar performance, including low frame rates or error Id 12015 in EthoVision (Trial duration does not correspond with system time).

The steps below can be used to check or correct this issue.

  • Open the Pylon IP Configurator (which may be on the desktop, otherwise look in the Start menu under Basler), which should list the ethernet adapter (network card) that the camera is connected to.
  • Right-click the ethernet adapter and click Properties
  • Click on Configure and then go to the Driver tab.
  • Click on Update Driver, ‘Browse my computer...’, then on ‘Let me pick...’. Here you should see the ‘Basler GigE Vision Adapter’ (if you do not see it in the list, uncheck ‘show compatible hardware’ and go to the Intel list of devices). Select that driver and click Next. If it asks whether you are sure click Yes, and once it uses this driver it should be able to use the camera again.
  • If it already shows the Basler driver as being used, try selecting the Intel Gigabit Pro driver first, clicking OK, and then switching back to the Basler GigE Vision Adapter driver as described above.

In order to stop Windows from replacing drivers you can make the following setting change:

  • Right-click the Start menu and pick System.
  • Click Advanced System Settings on the right.
  • Click the Hardware tab.
  • Click the Device Installation Settings button.
  • Select "No (your device might not work as expected)."
