Connecting a Basler camera
Noldus primarily uses Basler GigE cameras, which connect to the computer with a network cable. "GigE" is short for Gigabit-Ethernet. Some Basler cameras use USB3 connections instead.

USB3 Cameras
If you are using a USB camera, connect the supplied cable to the camera and plug it into a USB 3.0 (not 2.0) port on the PC. USB 3.0 ports can usually be identified as blue in color and/or indicated by an “SS” (for "SuperSpeed"). Plug the camera directly into the computer; if it is plugged into a hub, it must share bandwidth with other devices connected to the hub, and performance may suffer.
GigE Cameras
If using a GigE camera (which connects with a network cable), you may have either a single network cable directly connecting the camera to the computer, or a cable going from the camera to a power injector (aka midspan) and a second cable from the power injector to the computer. In either case, only a single cable is connected to the camera, providing both connectivity and power.
1. On desktop computers supplied by Noldus, there will typically be two or more network ports. One port is up near the USB ports and is normally not used for the camera (it may be used to connect to your local network). A dedicated network card will be located lower down, and is normally labeled. There may be 1, 2, or 4 ports on the card. Use these lower ports. 4-port cards (and newer 2-port cards) supply power so a power injector is not required.
If your card has more than one port, note that the camera must be plugged into the correct port. See note below.
2. If you have a power injector, verify that the short cable is connected from the “Data In” port on the power injector to the computer, while the long cable is connected from the “Data & Power Out” port on the power injector to the back of the camera. The purpose of the power injector is to supply power to the camera, so the camera must be plugged into the port that supplies the power.
3. the power injector must also be plugged into a functional power outlet. With everything connected correctly, the light on the power injector should be solid green. (A yellow light indicates power but no network activity, e.g. the computer is turned off. A blinking green light indicates a problem.)
NOTE If you have more than one GigE camera on the PC, make sure they are plugged into the correct network card/port. For example, a camera with an IP address of 192.168.200.1 needs to plug into the network port with an IP address of 192.168.200.101, a camera with an IP address of 192.168.201.1 needs to plug into the network port with an IP address of 192.168.201.101, etc. The first three numbers must match (e.g. 192.168.200) while the last number will differ (Noldus normally uses 1 for the camera and 101 for the network port).
